"IMMATURE MARTIAL EAGLE GETS THE BETTER OF A MONITOR LIZARD" - 24 June 2010 00:00
This young martial eagle was spotted on Bryans drive, under a bush, battling with a young monitor lizard of approximately one metre in length. The monitor was firmly gripped around its middle, vicious talons piercing its belly, while its tail lashed fruitlessly behind. It wasn’t long before the monitor lost all fight and the martial came out into the open doing the monitor walk – one foot clothed in lizard and the other bare, tail dragging along...read more |

"ALL ON A MORNING GAME DRIVE" - 11 June 2010 00:00
On the morning outing this magnificent two and half metre long python gave Bryan a shock as he stopped to “go behind a bush”. The python was unperturbed and allowed everyone a great view before slithering off into the undergrowth.
A good view of a leopard sunning itself followed before it strolled off, passing close to the vehicle for extra camera opportunities.
To top it all our guests had a great view of a lizard buzzard feasting on a mou...read more |

"A MORNING WALK Saturday, 22nd May 2010" - 24 May 2010 00:00
The blue skies and warm May temperatures were perfect for our morning walking safari!
Strolling towards our canoe, across the white sands of the “beach” to cross the Luangwa River, we noticed a buffalo carcass floating down river followed closely by several crocodiles. Although the carcass finally lodged against an upturned tree in the river, the crocodiles continued to hold back patiently.
Paddling the canoe carefully to avoid the hippos...read more |

"A Busy Off Season Draws to a Close" - 30 April 2010 00:00
The five month off season for Remote Africa Safaris is now drawing to a close. Supposedly the rains are over though the heavens do not agree; scattered showers have fallen every other day for the last week. Fortunately the rain has not affected our newly graded game viewing loops within the park. John, Stephen, Alex and the lads have been “playing tractor games” to great effect increasing our available road network daily, smoothing out the rainy ...read more |

"Tafika News of the Luangwa Valley March 2010 by Carol Coppinger" - 07 March 2010 00:00
Since John and I moved to Lusaka for the rains (December to the end of March) our news of Tafika and the walking camps has been second hand, over the phone, chatting to the staff who have been minding Tafika. Francisco travelled down in January to organise and pay our student scholarships for the first term. The first week of March John and Isaac flew to the valley to check on the camp, just as the river was starting to flood its banks.
Since ...read more |

"TAFIKA FUND NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2009" - 11 November 2009 00:00
The Luangwa Valley is heating up... literally and figuratively. We are enjoying a mind blowing windup to an excellent game viewing season with little wartlets charging around madly, spindly legged baby impalas, leopards and lions aplenty.
Although our funding reduced this year due to 'GLOBAL', Zambia's description of the global recession, Tafika Fund forged on with reasonable success. We supported 21 high school students, 5 teachers at trainin...read more |
